A vehicle for collecting and stacking bales of hay or straw comprises a platform 6, Fig. 1, to which is articulated a bar 10 with tines 11. The tines are resiliently urged into a horizontal load-bearing position by an adjustable spring 13. The bar 10 has a lever 10b, Fig. 2, rigid with it which is attached to the chassis by pivoted links 16, 17. These links are held in vertical alignment by a spring 18 and in this position the tines are locked in a horizontal position. Movement of a lever 20 pushes these links to the right in Fig. 2, by means of a heel 20a, thus allowing the tines to descend under the weight of a load to deposit it. The vehicle may be towed by a bar 23 which can be held by pins either parallel to the sides of the chassis or at an angle when travelling on the road, so that the side of the vehicle does not jut out beyond the side of the towing vehicle. The operator either receives bales from a conduit C, Fig. 6, of a binder, or they are thrown on to the platform from the ground, and stacks them on the tines 11. This stack may be deposited when desired by moving the handle 20 with the vehicle in motion, thus allowing the stack of bales to slide off.
