An article of footwear, comprising: a sole member (1520) having an outwardly facing surface (1522) and an inwardly facing surface (1524) disposed opposite of the outwardly facing surface (1522), wherein the outwardly facing surface (1522) is disposed further from a foot than the inwardly facing surface when the article of footwear is worn; the sole member (1520) including a plurality of holes (1580) extending from the outwardly facing surface (1522) to the inwardly facing surface (1524); and a plurality of different protruding member assemblies (1550, 1552, 1554, 1556), each protruding member assembly comprising a plurality of protruding members (1600) connected to one another by a plurality of connecting portions (1560), each of the plurality of protruding members including a proximal protruding portion (1604) and a distal protruding portion (1602), wherein the distal protruding portion (1602) is dis-posed further from the foot than the proximal protruding portion when the article of footwear is worn.
