A system is disclosed in which a base station receives, from a core network node (e.g. a mobility management entity), a resume identifier associated with a communication device located within a cell of the base station. The base station retrieves, based on the received resume identifier, a user equipment (UE) context associated with the communication device, for use in resumption of a suspended communication connection (e.g. a radio resource control connection) by the communication device. The UE context may be retrieved from a local memory or another base station. The communication device may include information identifying its current location with the resume identifier (e.g. with a Tracking Area Update (TAU) message). Also disclosed is a communication device which transmits a request to resume a communication connection including information identifying a number of radio bearers to be resumed. The above systems are relevant for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, Machine-Type Communication (MTC) devices or Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication devices.
