The invention relates to an installation for the optical inspection of surface regions (16) of objects (12), in particular painted vehicle bodies (14), comprising a test light device (28), by which objects (12) located in a test region (18a) can be irradiated with a test light (30) and by which a test pattern (32) can be generated on the surface region (16). A lighting system (42) comprises a plurality of lighting units (50, 64), by which test light (30) can be emitted. The color of light or both the color of light and the light intensity of the test light (30) can be optionally adjusted by means of the lighting units (50, 64).
