Embodiments relate to a concept for observing a ring (100; 200) of interconnected inverting circuit elements (110; 210). In the ring, an output of a first inverting circuit element is coupled to an input of a second inverting circuit element. Respective present output signals of the inverting circuit elements are indicative of the ring's present state. The concept includes monitoring (310; 410), in response to an initial unstable state of the ring, an output of at least one of the inverting circuit elements (110; 210) in at least two observation time instants or at least two outputs in at least one observation time instants to obtain at least two observations of the at least one output; and combining (320; 420) the at least two observations to obtain a response quantity in response to the ring's initial unstable state.
