The oven has a cooking chamber (2), is arranged in the ceiling of a first heater (4). Behind the rear wall (6) of the cooking chamber (2) there is a chamber (7), in which a cross flow fan (10) is housed. The cross-flow fan (10) draws in air via at least one inlet opening (8) at the upper end of the rear wall (6) and releases them and subsequently by at least one outlet opening (9) at the lower end of the rear wall back into the cooking chamber (2). In operation, the first heater (4) is switched on together with the fan (10), so that the air at the first heater (4) is heated before it is conveyed through the chamber (7). Thus, therefore, the top heat or the grill of the oven is used in recirculation mode for heating the air. A separate heating in the chamber (7) is required, and it can be achieved in a simple manner a large heating capacity.
