The invention relates to a reciprocating engine having a first inner magnetic unit (8a; 34) disposed at a first crank web (9a) of a consisting of a magnetisable material crankshaft (3), and a stationary first outer magnetic unit (11a; 37), the first inner magnetic unit (8a; 34) and the first outer magnetic unit together a first electromechanical transducer (12a), in particular an electric motor or an electric generator forming. The first crank web (9a) comprises a relative to a crankshaft axis (4) pointing radially outwards, and a first bearing (6) opposite a first attachment surface (13a) on. A first balance weight (14a) is fixed to the first fastening surface (13a) form-fitting manner in radial direction, said first balance weight (14a) is made of a non-magnetizable material. The first inner magnetic unit (8a; 34) is arranged on a crankshaft in relation to the axis (4) radially outwardly facing side of the first balance weight (14a). Moreover, the invention relates to a system with the reciprocating motor, an energy store (21), an electrical control unit (22) and a crankshaft sensor (23).
