A recording and reproduction device (1) includes: an information readout section (121), which reads out first information (such as an OS or an application) recorded on an optical disk (10); an information storage control section (122), which stores, in a memory section (15), the first information read out by the information readout section (121); and an enable/disable control section (21), which, when the optical disk (10) is ejected, enables use of either the first information stored in the memory section (15) by the information storage control section (122) or the first information recorded on the optical disk (10) and disables use of the other. This makes it possible, with sufficient safeguards for the first information recorded on the optical disk (10), to use the first information in a plurality of recording and reproduction devices.
