The present invention relates a transceiver unit (111, 211) for operating a communication channel (420).
In a first aspect of the invention, the transceiver unit is adapted to operate the communication channel in a first reference-power operating mode (L0), to configure error control over the communication channel in accordance with a first required Quality of Service QoS (QoS0Req) and a first nominal data rate (DR0) achievable over the communication channel during the first operating mode, and to switch operation of the communication channel from the first operating mode to a second low-power operating mode (L2),
wherein the transceiver unit is further adapted to adjust error control over the communication channel concomitantly with entry into the second operating mode, which adjustment being made in accordance with a second required QoS (QoS2Req) and a second reduced data rate (DR2) achievable over the communication channel during the second operating mode.
