A method of modifying process control data, comprising: defining a first schema associated with organizing process control data in a first data format that is used to exchange the process control data between at least one editor and a process control system data manager; obtaining the process control data in a second data format associated with a second schema; converting the process control data from the second data format to the first data format based on the first schema; and exporting the process control data and the first schema in the first data format to the at least one editor.
