The invention relates to a milling machine (1) for milling at least one surface (2) of a slab (3). Preferably, the milling machine (1) is part of an apparatus for producing a metal strip by means of a continuous casting process. Said milling machine (1) comprises a machine base (4) on which a spindle holder (5) is disposed or from which a spindle holder (5) is molded. At least one bearing (7) that retains at least one milling cutter (6) is arranged inside the spindle holder (5). In order to be able to better dampen vibrations when milling hot slabs, at least some sections of, preferably the entire machine base (4) is/are formed by a number of metal walls (8) which enclose a volume that is filled with concrete (9).
