The invention relates to the non-destructive measurement of components, in particular, functional evaluation of the bonding of cast pieces, for example, pistons for internal combustion engines. On such a measurement or functional evaluation, the problem is to determine the functionality and integrity of the bonding between the base material and the cast or otherwise bonded material. The quality of the component or the suitability thereof for a particular application purpose can be determined and/or a quality control of the production process, for example, in the foundry or during production can be carried out. According to the invention, the above is achieved by means of a multi-stage correction method, by means of which measured values determined by a suitable embodiment of a measuring arrangement and method, for example, with ultrasound, are subjected to a multi-stage determination process, which minimises the interference factors inherent in the system on measurement in a universal manner for each single measurement, and thus determines the desired results. A system with a corresponding embodiment minimises error effects which occur on carrying out such a measurement (in particular, on adjustment/setting) as well as measuring errors and erroneous evaluation on carrying out the measurement, caused by geometrical tolerance deviations or differences in material or joint composition and further interference factors.
