The invention relates to a gas-isolated electric cable (1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f) which is to be laid in a body of water. Said gas-isolated electric cable (1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f) is provided with at least one mass element (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 2f, 2g, 2h) for sinking the same. The mass elements (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 2f, 2g, 2h) are used as foundations and for mounting the gas-isolated electric cable (1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f) once the gas-isolated electric cable (1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f) has been sunk. The inventive gas-isolated electric cable (1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f) is movably fixed to the mass element (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 2f, 2g, 2h) such that a movement perpendicular to the direction of installation of the gas-isolated electric cable (1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f) is made possible.
