The invention relates to a method for the continuous production of thermoplastically-processable polyurethane elastomers with improved homogeneity, whereby a polyisocyanate (A), a compound (B) with a mean of at least 1.8 and at most 3.0 Zerevitinoff-active hydrogen atoms, a mean molecular weight of 450 g/Mol to 5,000 g/Mol, in a proportion of 1 to 80 % equivalents, relative to the isocyanate group content of the polyisocyanate (A), a chain length extender (C), with a mean of at least 1.8 and at most 3.0 Zerevitinoff-active hydrogen atoms per molecule, a number average molecular weight of 60 g/Mol to 400 g/Mol, in a proportion of 12 to 99 % equivalents, relative to the isocyanate group content of the polyisocyanate (A), 0 to 30 wt. % catalysts, relative to the total amount of polyurethane elastomers and further adjuncts and additives (D), in a molar NCO:OH ratio of 0.9:1 to 1.2:1 for the polyisocyanate (A) to the total of compound (B), the chain length extender (C) and the further adjuncts and additives are fed to a self-cleaning double-screw extruder, operated at high shear speed and the mixture then discharged from the self-cleaning twin-screw extruder into a further device for reacting out, characterised in that in the self-cleaning twin-screw extruder, shear speeds of above 6,000 s-1 and residence times in the range of 1 to 20 s are set.
