[PROBLEMS] To provide a color wheel device capable of being set correspondingly to a plurality of display modes without using a mechanically complicated mechanism. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] This color wheel device (1) comprises a first color wheel (10) having the transmission areas of white colors (102) and (104), a red color (106), a green color (108), and a blue color (110) in the circumferential direction and rotated about the axis thereof, a second color wheel (20) having the transmission areas of white colors (202) and (204), a red color (206), a green color (208), and a blue color (210) in the circumferential direction and rotated coaxially with the first color wheel, and a selection means selecting the relative position of the first color wheel (10) to the second color wheel (20). The first and second color wheels (10) and (20) are rotated to let light from the first color wheel (10) side thereinto and to outgo the light from the second color wheel (20).
