The invention relates to MVA-based recombinant viruses comprising at least one nucleic acid coding for Plasmodium falciparum MSP-1 protein, a fragment or mutein thereof. The invention also relates to a method for the production of recombinant viruses, virus-containing vaccines and to the utilization of said recombinant viruses for the prophylaxis and/or therapy of malaria.
