The invention concerns a system for sealing a plastic material tank opening, consisting of a multilayer plastic material plate (1) including a barrier layer (9) welded on the periphery of the opening and provided with a tapered peripheral zone (13, 14) so as to efficiently limit gas and liquid permeation in the layer located between the tank (11) and the barrier layer (9). The invention also concerns a method for sealing a tank (11) by welding such as plate (1) including welding the tapered peripheral part (13, 14) using laser or infrared radiation technique. The invention further concerns the use of said method for sealing a motor vehicle fuel tank (11).
