The invention relates to a method and device for weighing the contents of a metallurgical vessel (2), particularly the contents of a distributing launder (3) in steel continuous casting installations, whereby the vessel (2) is supported on hydraulically actuatable weighing elements. The invention serves to increase the measuring accuracy before and during the metallurgical process. To this end, the filling weight is computationally determined in a continuous manner based on hydraulic pressures inside cylinder chambers (8a; 9a; 10a; 11a), which are measured less the empty weight of the vessel (2) and less the frictional forces inside the cylinder chambers (8a; 9a; 10a; 11a) and/or inside vertical guides (12).
