In the case where a storage device 13A having only an analog input terminal Ain is connected, MPEG audio data is decoded, then D/A-converted, and outputted from Aout. In the case where a storage device 13B having a PCM audio input terminal Din is connected, MPEG audio data is decoded and outputted from Dout. In the case where a storage device 13C having a bidirectional digital interface terminal Dif such as an IEEE1394 digital interface terminal is connected, ATRAC data is outputted from Dif. Thus, in a contents distribution system, the type of received data can be selected in accordance with the type of a storage device connected to an IRD.
