The present invention provides an automatic winder that can increase the speed of a bobbin installation operation, and thus of doffing operations, and that can reduce the weight of the apparatus. An automatic winder includes a winding unit 4 having a drum 6 that contacts a bobbin 14 to rotate it and a supporting member 8 that supports the bobbin 14, allowing it to rotate contact, and leave the drum 6, said automatic wider also includes a bobbin installation means 15 for installing the bobbin 14 on the supporting member 8, the bobbin installation means 15 being controlled to install the bobbin 14 on the supporting member 8 at a position at which the bobbin 14 and drum 6 contact each other.
