An image forming apparatus comprises a housing (1), a means (40) for storing sheets (S) therein, which is detachable from the image forming apparatus, a means (26, 28) for feeding a sheet to an image forming section (3, 13), and a means (32) for guiding the sheet storing means (40), when it is removed from or inserted into the image forming apparatus. At a back surface of the housing (1), an opening is formed through which the sheet storing means (40) can pass, so that a front surface of the sheet storing means (40) is substantially aligned with a front surface of the housing (1), when the sheet storing means (40) is perfectly inserted and normally mounted into the image forming apparatus.
