A voltage amplifier circuit having a simple circuit construction and suitable for use as a high gain solid state image pickup device is constituted by a differential circuit (18), one input terminal thereof being supplied with an input signal, at least one stage of an inverter (6) circuit which are serially connected to an output terminal of the differential circuit, an output terminal of the last stage inverter circuit is connected to the other input terminal of the differential circuit by a switch element (16) ON/OFF controlled at a predetermined timing. In a signal transmission path there is no capacitor causing loss and delay.
