Method of making a spark plug comprising:
forming a green ceramic core (48) under the size of the insulator (4) of the finished plug (2); securing a thermocouple (30), with appropriate electrical leads (36,38), to the surface (50) of the core (48); forming a green ceramic shell (52) over the core (48) and thermocouple (30); machining the shell (52) to the desired finished shape in such a manner that the thermocouple (30) remains buried in the green ceramic shell (52); and finally firing the green ceramic core (48) and shell (52). The thermocouple (30) and leads (36,38) will preferably comprise Pt and Pt-Rh ink painted onto the surface (50) of the core (48).
