The utility model relates to the field of cranes, and in particular relates to a track type crane and an operation mechanism thereof. The operation mechanism of the track type crane comprises a transmission shaft, an operation wheel which is fixedly assembled on the transmission shaft, and a track which corresponds to the operation wheel, wherein the operation wheel comprises spokes and a rim; an outer gear ring is arranged on the transmission shaft or the rim of the operation wheel; and a rack which is meshed with the outer gear ring is arranged on the track. According to the operation mechanism of the track type crane, the crane has a climbing capability, and the outer gear ring and the rack can be protected from being damaged.
