The invention relates to a digital phase modulator for a fiber-optic measuring device that has a predetermined total number of electrodes (E0 to E11) of varying length that are disposed in parallel and at both sides of a light guiding path (L) in or on an optical substrate. The aim of the invention is to substantially increase the resolution of such a digital phase modulator while at the same time not increasing the overall length of the modulator. According to the invention, the electrodes (E0 to E11) are disposed along the light guiding path in a plurality of triplets, whereby especially within one triplet two electrodes each that have a subsequent length have the same length ratio which is especially selected to be v = 1.618. In order to further improve the resolution of the modulator with a technology that can be better controlled, especially for least significant (LSB) electrodes, the modulator can be adapted to select the electrode length of said triplet in such a manner that the smallest step size of the initial value range of the phase modulator can be obtained by calculating the difference between at least two larger electrodes. The resolution of the phase modulator can be increased from 9 bits to 11 bits with the same chip size.
