The invention discloses a fault detection system and method for train speed and distance measurement equipment. According to the related scheme, the speed, the pulse number and the channel power supply working current can be used as detected characteristic quantities, and the characteristic quantities are analyzed through different detection logics, so that comprehensive detection of faults and service performance parameters of a speed sensor and a vehicle-mounted speed and distance measurement processing board card is realized, the driving safety is ensured, and the operation and maintenanceefficiency is improved.
