The invention relates to a method for preventing printing errors in water-based ink printing. The method comprises the following steps: calibrating a plurality of cameras; providing a first test pattern with a filled disc; printing a first test pattern with a water-based ink by means of a plurality of inkjet printheads during a first round of passage of the sheet of printing material through the inkjet printer to generate a test print; detecting the filled disc of the first test pattern by means of a camera during a first round to generate a first reference image; or generating a first reference image based on data provided for the first test pattern; storing the printing material sheet with the test printing sample until the printing material sheet adapts to the environment; detecting thefilled disc of the first test pattern by means of the camera during a second round of passage of the sheet of printing material through the inkjet printer, generating a second reference image; basedon the comparison of the first reference image and the second reference image, printed image compensation is calculated in a computer-supported manner. The invention is advantageous in that interfering shrinkage of the printing material can be achieved.
