The invention provides a wide-area operation and maintenance safety design method for substation automation equipment. The method comprises respective safety design of a service management center, a remote operation and maintenance center and a substation and a safety interaction method among the service management center, the remote operation and maintenance center and the substation. Safety certification systems of a wide area operation and maintenance system are respectively set in a service management center, a remote operation and maintenance center and a transformer substation, and meanwhile, an encryption certification function is deployed among the service management center, the remote operation and maintenance center and the transformer substation, so that the safety of wide areanetwork communication is ensured. Both the service management system and the substation automation equipment monitoring system have an auditing log recording function, so that the safety of interaction among the service management center, the remote operation and maintenance center and the substation is ensured. The operation safety, intelligence, operation and maintenance convenience and the supporting effect on the regulation and control main station of the transformer substation are improved, and the service supporting capacity of the transformer substation for large operation, a large maintenance system and an unattended mode is comprehensively improved.
