The invention discloses a damage detection method for a carbon fiber composite core wire. The method comprises the following steps: S1, carrying out image acquisition on the carbon fiber composite core wire by adopting an X-ray imaging mode; S2, making a carbon fiber composite core wire image to obtain a training sample and a detection sample; S3: determining the input, output and intermediate part structure of a Faster R-CNN network according to the sample characteristics of the training samples; S4: training the Faster R-CNN network using the training samples to determine the best ferry R-CNN network with the best training effect as the damage detection model and S5, detecting the pretreated and standardized detection sample by using a damage detection model, and marking a damage position in the carbon fiber composite core wire image.
