The invention discloses a modification method of a PP (polypropylene)-based insulating material for high-voltage direct current cables. A PP composite base material, an organic solvent and a crosslinking agent are sufficiently mixed to react in a reaction kettle with pressure-proof, heating and stirring functions, and a nano modified PP-based composite insulating material is obtained. Firstly, thePP composite base material and the organic solvent are put in a reaction kettle; a heating device is started, so that the PP composite base material and the organic solvent in the reaction kettle areheated and kept; stirring is performed; the crosslinking agent accounting for 1%-3% of the total mass of PP and octavinyl-POSS is added to the reaction kettle and stirred for 5-10 min, and stirring and the heating device are stopped; cooling and recovery are performed. The organic solvent has low toxicity, is produced in an airtight manner, can be recycled and has excellent economic and environmental benefits.
