The invention provides a prompting method and device. The prompting method comprises: an execution instruction of a command is received; and when the command is a configuration type and is not storedin the configuration file, executing a first prompt operation. By means of the technical scheme, the user is reminded of the configuration command which is not stored in the configuration file in time, and the hidden danger that configuration is lost in the process that the device is restarted or the complete machine configuration file is generated is effectively prevented.
