A high performance plug has a housing, eight contacts accommodated in a front portion of the housing, and a termination block which is symmetrical about an axis thereof. In one embodiment, the termination block has a contact interface configured to electrically engage the plug contacts and arranged such that a contact interface connected to the plug contacts 1-8 is switched to be connected to theplug contacts 8-1 when the termination block rotates 180 degrees. In one embodiment, the coupling of the paths from the contacts 3 to the contacts 1, 2, 4, and 5 is the same as the coupling of the contact 6 to the contacts 7, 8, 5, and 4.
