The invention discloses a method for preparing benzil through catalytic dehydrogenation of benzoin. The benzoin is adopted as a raw material, benzil is prepared through catalytic dehydrogenation, anda dehydrogenation catalyst is prepared from, by weight, 50-60 parts of iron sesquioxide, 5-10 parts of potassium oxide, 10-20 parts of titanium dioxide and 2-8 parts of zinc oxide. According to the method, a static bed is adopted for reacting, continuous production can be achieved, a hydrogen storage carrier is added to serve as a reaction solvent, the reaction is carried out in inert gas atmosphere, the conversion per pass of benzoin is 82.5%, the selectivity of benzil is 98.9%, and the method has the advantages of being small in by-product quantity, small in environmental pollution, low in reaction cost and the like.
