The invention discloses a CPE material for an external rubber of a steel wire rubber hose. The CPE material is prepared from the following components by weight percent: 30-40% of raw rubber, 35-45% ofreinforcing filler, 10-20% of softening plasticizer, 3-8% of active agent, 1.5-3.5% of adhesive and 1.5-3.5% of vulcanizing agent. According to the invention, the external rubber of the steel wire rubber hose prepared from the CPE material serving as a main rubber has a thermal ageing property basically close to that of CSM and better than that of CR and NBR+PVC, has an ozone resistance better than that of CR and NBR+PVC, and has an oil resistance better than that of CSM and CR, and furthermore, the external rubber of the steel wire rubber hose can greatly reduce the original cost while meeting the product performances, and can replace the original materials, such as NBR+PVC, CR and CSM.
