A device (1) for ground freezing, comprising a freezing lance (10) which extends along a longitudinal axis (L) and has a pipe mantle (11) that encloses an interior space (12), wherein the ground surrounding the freezing lance can be cooled by the refrigerant (K) present in a first section (13) of the interior space, a line (15) for supplying the liquid refrigerant (K) in the first section (13) ofthe interior space (12), wherein the device (1) has a first end section (2) with a first opening for removing an exhaust gas (A) formed by evaporation of the refrigerant (K) from the interior space (12), wherein the interior space (12) has a second section (14) for holding the exhaust gas (A), wherein heat is exchangeable between the exhaust gas (A) and the pipe mantle (11) in the second section (14), so that the exhaust gas (A) can be heated by heat exchange with the ground adjacent to the freezing lance (10). The invention further relates to a method for ground freezing by means of the device (1).
