The invention provides a video abstract generation method for a security monitoring system, and the method mainly comprises six steps of background reconstruction, target detection, target tracking, target trajectory post-processing, target trajectory generation and video abstract generation. The three-dimensional information of an interest target's active pipeline is extracted from an original video, and is synthesized with a background video, thereby obtaining a shorter video clip through concentration. A video of one day or one hour is compressed into a short abstract video of tens of minutes or several minutes, including all important event target details and snapshot videos in the original video.
