The invention discloses a fault detection method for the remaining amount abnormality of a single-phase intelligent electric energy meter. The method comprises the following step of performing preliminary detection on an abnormal electric energy meter: if the current remaining amount in an EEPROM memory of the abnormal electric energy meter is abruptly changed to 644XXX.XX yuan, and the remainingamount value in an ESAM is normal, but the remaining amount in the recharged purchase record is abruptly changed to 644XXX.XX yuan, then the remaining amount abnormality occurs in a local card recharge process and is judged to be the fault class 1. If the current remaining amount in the EEPROM memory of the abnormal electric energy meter is abruptly changed to 949XX.XX yuan, and the remaining amount value in the ESAM is normal, but the electric quantity data is abruptly changed to 949XXX.XX kWh, then the remaining amount abnormality occurs in a normal stop-and-restart process and is judged tobe the fault class 2.
