The invention discloses a fuel oil additive and a preparation method thereof, wherein the fuel oil additive comprises, by weight, 20-100 parts of methanol, 5-10 parts of isobutanol, 2-6 parts of xylene, 5-30 parts of n-octyl alcohol, 10-15 parts of isopropanol, 0.01-1.0 part of alkylbenzene, 5-8 parts of fatty acid polyoxyethylene ether, 1-2 parts of triethanolamine oleate, 3-4 parts of butylatedhydroxytoluene, 6-9 parts of tert-butyl hydroquinone, and 15-30 parts of deionized water. According to the present invention, the fuel oil additive has characteristics of simple preparation process, convenient operation, low cost, fuel oil saving, power increasing, deposit removing, emission reducing, fuel oil utilization improving, power increasing and other comprehensive effects.
