The invention relates to a distribution line adaptive reclosure method and a fault character recognition method. Reclosure control is carried out according to a different fault type; a capacitor is inputted to a related fault interphase loop; three-phase current after input of the capacitor is detected; whether permanent fault happens to the line is judged according to a current satisfaction relationship; and when permanent fault happens, reclosure is closed, or otherwise, reclosure is opened. Only the capacitor which is an externally added device is involved in the method, the input cost is low, the process of the method is simple, whether the line fault is instant or permanent is judged through analyzing the relationship among the three-phase current after input of the capacitor, complexoperation is not needed, and establishment of complex equations is not needed. The operation process is simple, the reliability in the case of execution is high, the burden is light when the controlsystem executes a software program corresponding to the method, the control system does not need to bear a heavy operation burden, and requirements on the hardware of the control system are low.
