The invention provides a device and method for simulating a short circuit in a battery. The device comprises a battery; a heat shrinkable film connected to the two poles of the battery in the batteryand shrinking when reaching a heat shrinking temperature; a heating unit for heating the battery to the heat shrinking temperature; and a data acquisition unit connected to the battery through a sensing device and configured to acquire a battery body characteristic parameter of the battery in a process of triggering the short circuit in the battery by heating. The device and method ensure the structural integrity of the battery before and after the triggering of the short circuit in the battery, can accurately capture the body characteristic change of the short circuit in the battery and the degree of damage after the short circuit in the battery, timely predicts and discovers the short circuit in the battery, and provides guarantee for safety device protection design and personnel protection.
