The invention provides gene for regulating crop dwarf and yield and application thereof. Specifically, crop (such as rice) dwarf related gene SBI disclosed by the invention, encoding protein of the gene, mutant protein of the gene or an accelerant of the gene can be applied to regulating agronomic traits of crops, and the agronomic traits are one or several chosen from (i) plant height; (ii) tiller number; (iii) grain weight of a single plant; (iv) yield. In addition, the invention further finds that 308th site amino acid (aspartic acid) of crop dwarf related protein SBI is mutated into asparaginate and/or 338th site amino acid (glycine) is mutated into arginine for the first time. Therefore, a content of active gibberellins GA1/GA9 is obviously reduced, a content of inactivated gibberellins GA8/GA51/GA29 is obviously improved, so that plant height is obviously reduced, and lodging resistance of crops is improved.
