A flame monitoring arrangement for a flame (12) burning in the combustion chamber of a fuel-fired heater (1) comprises a photoelectric sensor (20) located outside the combustion chamber at a distancefrom the combustion chamber, the light emitted by the burning flame (12) is incident to the photoelectric sensor (20) and passes through a light passage opening (33) provided in a wall (31) of the combustion chamber, and the photoelectric sensor (20) transmits an electrical control signal enabling the presence or absence of the flame to be detected. To improve the visibility of the flame and to reduce the risk of contamination is provided that the distance between the photoelectric sensor (20) and the light passage opening is bridged by a hollow body (36) such that a dust-protected connectionis formed between the photoelectric sensor (20) and the light passage opening (33) in the wall (31) of the combustion chamber such that through its interior, the light emitted from the light passage opening (33) can reach the photoelectric sensor (20).
