The present invention provides a face image quality determination method. The method comprises the following steps of: S1: performing face detection of an input image, and determining a face region inthe image; S2: performing location of face key points of the image in which the face is detected; S3: calculating the gradient of the face image region after location of the key points, and obtaininga face gradient image; S4: determining the coordinate positions of the key points in the gradient image; S5: calculating the gradient information of neighborhoods of the key points; and S6: integrally obtaining a quality determination value of the face image according to the gradient information of neighborhoods of the key points. The face image quality determination method can perform sampling learning with no need for lots of training data and can perform gradient neighborhood calculation of the key points of the image to be identified to effectively relieve the operation load of the systemand improve the accuracy and the efficiency of image quality determination.
