A method for producing pancreatic endocrine cells, said method comprising an introduction step in which any of the following genes or gene products are introduced into somatic cells: (A) a mutant GLIS1 gene or gene product thereof having at least 85% sequence identity with the nucleic acid sequence represented by SEQ. ID No. 1 or 2, a Neurogenin-3 gene or gene product thereof, a Pdx1 gene or gene product thereof, and a MafA gene or gene product thereof; (B) a mutant GLIS1 gene or gene product thereof having at least 85% sequence identity with the nucleic acid sequence represented by SEQ. ID No. 1 or 2, a Neurogenin-3 gene or gene product thereof, and a Pdx1 gene or gene product thereof; (C) a GLIS1 gene or gene product thereof, a Neurogenin-3 gene or gene product thereof, a Pdx1 gene or gene product thereof, and a MafA gene or gene product thereof; and (D) a mutant GLIS1 gene or gene product thereof having at least 85% sequence identity with the nucleic acid sequence represented by SEQ. ID No. 1 or 2, a Neurogenin-3 gene or gene product thereof, and a MafA gene or gene product thereof.
