The invention relates to an online cascading failure analysis method and device on the basis of large event driving. The method comprises the steps of obtaining predicted tidal current data of each component in a power grid; according to the predicted tidal current data of each component in the power grid, determining a predicted shutdown probability of each component in the power grid; accordingto the predicted tidal current data and predicted shutdown probability of each component in the power grid, determining whether or not large events of cascading failures occur in the power grid; if yes, searching for cascading failure paths of the power grid according to the current shutdown probability of each component in the power grid; if not, according to the predicted tidal current data andpredicted shutdown probability of each component in the power grid, redetermining whether or not the large events of the cascading failures occur in the power grid. Cascading failure analysis of the power grid is achieved on the basis of large event driving, cascading path analysis results can be used for preventing and controlling the power grid, and the capability of monitoring the shutdown riskof power grid equipment is enhanced.
