The invention provides an ultralow-self-discharge nickel-metal hydride battery, which comprises a positive plate and a negative plate, wherein each surface of a positive substrate is fixedly providedwith a cobalt coated spherical nickel layer; the general formula of alloy powder in a negative coating layer of a negative substrate is LaxPryNdzX(3-x-y-z)NiaA(9-a); X is at least one element of Mg, Ca, Ce and Sm; A is at least one element of Al, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn and Zr; x is not less than 0.5 but not greater than 0.58; y is not less than 0.82 but not greater than 0.95; z is not less than 0.92 but not greater than 1.2; a is not less than 7.9 but not greater than 8.6. The invention also discloses a making method of an electrode of the ultralow-self-discharge nickel-metal hydride battery. Theultralow-self-discharge nickel-metal hydride battery can be used for effectively reducing the occurrences of self-discharge phenomena, and can also maintain more electric energy when being stored fora long time for later use; the capacity recovery performance is excellent; the normal service life of the nickel-metal hydride battery can be prolonged, and meanwhile, the made nickel-metal hydride battery is high in stability performance.
