An electro-hydraulic drive unit comprises: a cylinder-piston assembly (1) that includes a first hydraulic working chamber (10) associated with a first moving direction (Y1) of the piston (9) as well as a second hydraulic working chamber (11) associated with an opposite second moving direction (Y2) of the piston (9); a tank (2) storing a hydraulic fluid; a two-quadrant hydraulic pump (5) which, inthe pumping mode, is driven by an electric motor (4) at variable speeds in exactly one predefined rotational direction and which has a tank connection leading directly into the tank (2) as well as a pressure connection (29); and a valve assembly which is mounted between the pressure connection (29) of the hydraulic pump (5) and the cylinder-piston assembly (1) and which includes a plurality of electrically controllable switching valves (S1-S6).
