An absorbent article (10) is provided with an absorbent body (1) that comprises a plurality of absorbent units (4) each having a long base section (2) and absorbent polymer particles (3), the absorbent units (4) being arrayed such that the lengthwise directions (Y) thereof are oriented to face in at least one direction. The absorbent polymer particles (3) are fixed only to a non-skin-facing surface of the long base section (2). Prior to the absorbent polymer particles (3) absorbing liquid, the particles (3) do not protrude in the widthwise direction (X) beyond side edges (2s) of the long basesection (2), and even after the particles (3) have absorbed liquid, the particles (3) are formed so as not to swell beyond the side edges (2s).
