The invention discloses an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system for an engine. The EGR system comprises the engine, an EGR pipeline and an EGR mixer. The EGR pipeline communicates with part of gas cylinders of the engine. The EGR mixer is arranged on the EGR pipeline. The EGR system further comprises a gas collecting device arranged on the EGR pipeline. An outlet of the gas collecting device communicates with an inlet of the EGR mixer. Exhaust gas exhausted from the gas cylinders of the engine enters the gas collecting device at first. The exhaust gas of each cylinder is first subjected to gas collecting buffering in the gas collecting device, and then enters each cylinder after entering the EGR mixer to be mixed with fresh air. The components and flow of the mixed exhaust gas returningto all the cylinders are basically the same due to the fact that the exhaust gas of each cylinder is first subjected to gas collecting buffering through the gas collecting device before entering the EGR mixer, and thus uniform distribution of the EGR rate of each cylinder of the engine is achieved.
