The invention relates to a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane modified EPDM rubber and a preparation method thereof, wherein the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane modified EPDM rubber is obtainedby carrying out a thermal initiation reaction in a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane and EPDM rubber system through a thermal initiator, and contains, by mass, 100 parts of an EPDM rubber, 5-50 parts of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, and 1-10 parts of a thermal initiator. Compared to the method in the prior art, the method of the present invention has the following advantages that the required product is obtained through the one-step reaction without the special modification treatment, the material is directly added to the rubber formula, and the obtained polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane modified EPDM rubber has excellent thermal stability, can easily improve the heat resistance and the ablation resistance of the EPDM vulcanized rubber, and can expand the use range of the EPDM rubber.
